Using The Food List & Restaurants Guides

There are two kinds of files on this site.

The .pdb files are for use with Palm based PDAs.
The .txt files are for anyone who does not have a Palm based PDA.

You MUST have a base program installed to use the zipped .pdb files.

Installing The Food List & Restaurants Guides

I have had many install questions, so I am going to take the time to walk through this process. I hope this will help.

Step 1 - Download the Base Program - List Or WWCalc

There are now two programs that can read the .pdb files. WWCalc or List.

As WW has told Bob Withers to pull the WWCalc program, please check the FAQ page to see if you can track down a copy.

List is a terrific freeware database program that can store a number of databases. The most recent version allows an unlimited amount of databases as well! Also, WWCalc will not delete, edit or modify databases. Even if you have WWCalc, List is a useful tool.

The List site and the mirror site

List has two options -

1. List lite - Just the executables (also available at Palmgear).
2. List full - Source and everything or the mirror site.

Most people are happy with the lite version. If you want to add your own items to the Food List or the code, then the listfull.zip is the right program for you.

If you have any problems with the List site, please go to Palmgear.com for the List Lite files.

Step 2 - Install List and/or WWCalc

Please follow the instructions for the program you have choosen.

Step 3 - Hotsync Your Palm

This should install the program of your choice. Check that that the program is working before going onto the next step. If not, please contact the programmer of the software you chose.

Step 4 - Download Food List & Restaurants Guides

Check the Food List & Restaurants Guides page. Decide which items you want and download them. DOWNLOAD THE ONES UNDER THE LIST HEADING.

Step 5 - Unzip Files

Use Winzip or any other decompression program to unzip the files.

Step 6 - Use the Palm Install Utility to Install the Desired Files

Pull up the Palm Install and add each files you have downloaded.

Step 7 - Hotsync Your Palm

This should do it. Pull up the List program. It should give you a list of the database if you click on the filing cabinet. All the Food/Restaurant /Brand Name Companions should be listed. Highlight the one you want and you are set!

Keep in mind that I did not write the List program or WWCalc. Jennifer & I just imported the text for the Restaurants Guides into the List format. I take no credit at all for either program! Jennifer & I are just twisted enough to import all the data.
